UNITED WAY SALUTES CAMPAIGN VOLUNTEERS

The United Way of Moore County recently thanked local businesses, volunteers and other members of the community involved in the 2006 campaign. A luncheon was held at Belle Meade in recognition of their efforts. Several awards were presented to leaders of the campaign, including Campaign Chairperson, Kim Gilley.

Other presentations included the Chairman's Award to Plastic Packaging/Polythin Films who more than doubled their previous campaign.  The United Way presented the Spirit of Caring Award to Cameron Elementary School and to Lowe's Food Store #168, the Pacesetter Award to BB&T, the Loaned Executive Award to Luellen Sorget of Dixon-Hughes, and the Major Business Award to Gulistan Carpets. The Spirit of Community Award was presented to FirstHealth of the Carolinas, North Moore High School Student Government Association, and to Sandhills Community College. Receiving awards as an Outstanding Non-Profit were Communities in Schools and Sandhills Children's Center. Eight organizations received awards for 100% participation in the campaign: Moore Buddies, Cameron Elementary School, Friend to Friend, Bethesda, Inc., Moore County Schools Transportation, Plastic Packaging/Polythin Films, Sandhills Children's Center, and the Town of Aberdeen. The board of directors also recognized George Walls, St. Joseph of the Pines, The Pilot, Muirfield Broadcasting, and WLHC-FM for their part in the United Way campaign.
